STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness)
Most parents are familiar with the TAKS (Texas Assessments of Knowledge and Skills) tests. In the 2011-2012 school year, the STAAR tests replaced the TAKS. STAAR tests will be administered to students in grades 3 – 8, and to students in grades 9 – 12 as End of Course exams.
The STAAR assessments are:

End of Course Exams (EOCs)
End of Course Exams (EOCs) were brand new in 2011-2012 for freshmen (9th graders) and 8th graders taking Algebra I. Beginning with this year’s freshman class, high school students will have to take 12 EOCs in addition to earning class credit in their core subjects. It is critical to note that the scores on EOCs will affect whether a student is eligible to graduate from high school in Texas.
